BBQ

One best thing to do in summer. This afternoon, we had BBQ with Erin's family. Kitten had lots of potato salad made by Carla. She also had a great time riding her scooter around.

Play alone

Kitten like to explore shelves and cabinets in the kitchen. So I hide the dangerous ones and let her play with some toys and bottles. She can play so long that I can almost finish preparing dinner during her playtime. Great improvement for Kitten.

Caroline has a Teletubbies story book. Since Kitten is a Teletubbies fan, I think she should be interested in this book. Surprisingly, as I read to the end page where it has all 4 Teletubbies hugging together with words 'big hug', Kitten suddenly came to me and hugged me. Later dada tried saying 'big hug' to Kitten and she came to him, too. Gee, Kitten is starting to understand English.
Update: Mary's 'Big hug' also works on Kitten. Sometimes, it works even better than dada's.

Talking on the phone is one of her favorite pretending games. She can hold on to a phone and utter a string of words as of she's talking to someone on the phone. Then she will hand the phone to me or dada to speak.

It started last night, only when she is sleeping. However, these coughs are quite disturbing that she can be waken up and cries. Maybe those remaining flu spot in her body have not been clear yet that some flu symptoms can come back very quickly. In addition to feeling sorry, I only hope that these coughs can go away soon.

Since Kitten started handing things to me, I often say "Xie xie" (thank you) in return. Gradually, she thought this is the term that you use when you are handing things to others. Now, whenever we heard she saying these 2 words, I can always make sure that she has something in her had and ready to give you.

This new Kitchen set is a new toy we borrowed from the toy library. As soon as it is set up in the living room, Kitten quicky went to it started her cooking time. In the end, we had a bow of lizard soup for lunch, both of us.

The Rain stopped today. But it is still cold and windy outside. We decide to go to a restaurant for breakfast.
This restaurant is just a block away from our hotel and we had a huge meal there. Unfortunately, there're too many people smoking there. Smoking is the impression I have about Montreal. I can see people smoking on the street and in the coffee store. For this part, I really cannot like this city much.
We are back! This train will continue its trip to Toronto. It was a very pleasant ride, Kitten played for one hour and slept through the rest of the trip so mama and dada are well rested.

Montreal 1Monday, May 13, 2002

Dada has an interview at McGill. so we tag along to visit Montreal. This time, we are taking VIA the train.
Kitten spent her first hour playing among me, dada and her seat. She also played peekaboo with a passenger that sat behind us.
We went to Biodome. A nice place for Kitten especially when it's rainy and windy outside. Kitten liked the display of various kinds of fishes the most.
We went back to McGill area by Metro, the subway of Montreal. After lots of walking, mama got really really tired and this toy store saved both of us. Kitten played toys and wooden train for over an hour and mama got better rest.

Dada took us out for Mother's day lunch. We were planning to go to Whisky Willy, but the line there was too long that people have to wait outside. Since it was cold and rainy, we decided to went to Danny's. The food was ok. Kitten had some mashed potato and played with other customers that sat behind us.

This is one of the toys we got for Kitten from Garage sales this morning. Kitten hasn't figured out how to pop the figures out but she likes trying to insert them back to different shape hole. After one successful trying, she would clap her hand and looked very satisfied.

Visiting garage sales is one major spring/summer activity on Saturday. This morning, Kitten and I visited a few places while dada continued his book writing at home. We first went to a family and a few pairs of shoes and summer clothes. Then we visited other places around the neighborhood and bought some toys. In our final stop, we picked up a few plastic and board books. With about 20 dollars, we brought home 3 shopping bags of kitten stuffs.

Kittens

Kitten and Caroline are more and more communicative now. Plus, they attack each other sometimes. Caroline would pull Kitten's hair Kitten's been breastfeed, and Kitten would poke or tried to pull Caroline away when she wanted to share hugs or food. They both can also do sit bouncing together. It is really a fun scene.

Tulip Festival

We went to a park along Queen's way to see tulips. Kitten liked to held in a front face position so that she can see things well. There were a lot of newly planed tulips, but they did not win Kitten's attention for long. Instead, a hopping doggie made Kitten giggled big time.

Rideau Center/Congress Center

Kitten Dada was attending a conference in Ottawa, so we tagged along and enjoyed window shopping in Rideau Center. I bought a box of milk and a bag of cereal then went to a coffee house to asked for a cup of hot water. Kitten had her dinner on the bench out side of Second Cup.

Kitten started coughs around 2 A.M. and that lasted for nearly an hour. Maybe it was too cold for her when we went out for a walk later in the afternoon. When she was coughing, she has to turn from side to side and would be waken up many times. When she finally return to sleep, I was exhausted, too.

Parent reliving program

This program is provided by Salvation Army in Kingston. One year registration fee for this program is 10 dollars. They provide 8 hours of childcare each month for parents. Each Tuesday, they also have a session called Take a Break in which they arrange talk or craft for mothers to attend. This morning, I brought Kitten there because I need to take my citizenship test. After finishing the test and grabbing a bag of corn from A&P, I saw Kitten were drinking cup milk from on one of the caretakers' lap. I think Kitten was pretty well taken care of.

Hotel Dieu Hospital

I took Kitten to Hotel Dieu Hospital for specialist because Kitten has been coughing for over one month. After 1.5 hours of waiting, Kitten has played most of the reachable books, blocks and medical instruments. Later, she was examined by a student doctor and a senior doctor. They checked her ear, listened to her chest and told me that they saw nothing wrong. "Some kid has longer remaining flu symptoms. There is not a medicine that can give you a quick relief and there's nothing we can do about it. The good thing is that your child doesn't have pneumonia.|" The senior doctor commented.

Yes, after missing 3 classes, we have return to the pool in YMCA. In the beginning, Kitten was tense, but I guess it just because that the water was colder the usual. Later, Kitten became talkative again. We did some songs and rhymes, most of the lyrics were modified for the aquatic environment, such as Old Macdonald had a pool. Kitten liked jumping into the pool a lot, she always looked very excited while making splashes. At last 10 minutes, we picked a toy and Kitten got a plastic earth. Is size was perfect for Kitten to hold and float.
After class, we went to family changing room for shower and put on our clothes. This time, I brought a bigger towel and arrange the sequence of dressing right. We both were washed and dressed without feeling over cold.
Miranda, the manager of aquatic dept. allow Kitten to make up her missing classes on other weekdays or credit them to the next class. It looks like we will keep swimming in June. Nice.

Kitten food

I remember since Kitten started to reject cereal since she was around 10 month old. However, it seems that her preference for food has changed recently. She started eating cereal again. Not only that, she can have a big bowl of cereal for her breakfast or lunch. However, that doesn't mean she would stop being picky. This evening, she spitted out the shell spaghetti I made for her and wanted to share my rice. Well, I guess she's tried of that flavor again. As to her fav fruit, she seems to lose her interest as well. Instead, she had some slice of apple today. Maybe she's gradually learn the use of her 8 well growing teeth. Oh, one last thing I must note, she finished one whole cheese stick before dinner. Must be her teeth working, too.

Kitten likes to stand in her old stroller and wants to get out of it. Often time, I have to hold her with one hand and pull the stroller with the other. After long thinking, I decided to buy a new stroller. This one is on sale at Wal-Mart now for about 30 dollars. We had our test ride this afternoon and everything went pretty well. It's handle is high enough that I don't have to bend myself, my plastic windshield for the old stroller can also fit in this one. Most important of all, we had a quite pleasant walk around our apartment complex for about 20 minutes. I think both Kitten and I are pretty happy with this new handy travel tool.

This program is similar to the one Kitten and I go to on Thursday. It has songs, rhymes, story telling and book reading. At the end, each mom also got a copy of the book of the week to keep for a week. They have 2 helpers around to make sure that even if children wonder off the circle, they will still be taken care of. I think I'll return to it next Friday,

Going out

Our mobility were highly increased since the returning of our car yesterday afternoon. This morning, Kitten and I returned to the Child resource center to join the playgroup and borrow new toys. Later in the afternoon, we went to Wal-Mart and bought 2 clearance toys. Now we won't miss any long distance programs. :-)

Lullaby

Kitten likes to hear me sing. The way she likes it is quite different from the way she likes the songs from our stereo. She always smiles big time whenever she hears Old McDonald had a farm; She will sing along "Jessie Jessie" when I put her name into the songs; Tonight, she was calmed down again by another song that I sang by her ear during bed time. In addition, her first happy journey in the car to Ottawa last week should also be remembered.
I love my little audience.
